Choose To Challenge Gender Equality by Seeking Personal Wealth
"From challenge comes change, so let's all choose to challenge" is the theme for International Women's Day in 2021. The choices you make in seeking personal wealth can drive real change for gender equality.
Who would have thought that being an avaricious woman was actually good for gender equality? Well it turns out it’s true. What happens when a woman is financially secure?
She will have the means to:
- Remain resilient during financial emergencies
- Live with housing security
- Provide for her children with increased opportunities
- Take risks that could result in better employment or business start-ups
- Have access to more resources
- Be more likely to leave detrimental relationships
- Pursue higher education for herself and her children
- Retire securely
- Pass on generational wealth
- Maintain good health and access better healthcare
- Participate in, and shape political and social agendas
And she will generally have more options in life.
It becomes clear that money is a useful tool in our lives. It’s an enabler for meeting our needs and achieving our goals. In fact, if money allows us to do all of that, then as the saying goes, money is power. If men have and are in control of the majority of the world’s wealth, then women have less power, are less enabled and have less tools at their disposal than men to achieve their objectives.
Whilst there’s a gender wealth gap, we won’t have gender equality.
So this IWD, this is my call to action to women. We can #ChooseToChallenge gender inequality by seeking personal wealth and financial success.
